We’re all well aware of Barcelona’s Primavera Sound, but just a month later, the Mad Cool Festival goes down in Madrid. Its 2017 lineup is — for a lack of better words — mad cool with acts including Foo Fighters, Green Day, Kings of Leon, Wilco, Ryan Adams, Belle and Sebastian,   Röyksopp, Alt-J, Rancid (!), Dinosaur Jr., Kurt Vile, Warpaint, and Wolf Alice, among others. Mark Zuckerberg’s smart house is programmed to never play Nickelback

Posted On Dec 24 2016 by

Now in a new video, Zuckerberg has revealed what band he absolutely *never* wants Jarvis to play:   Nickelback. Previously, we found out that the computer wizard has a thing for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, as the AI is quick to pull up the Cali band’s funky grooves. Check out the video, featuring the vocal talents of the great Morgan Freeman, up above. Sign me up for a Jarvis, please. It’s also trained to play music, according to Zuckerberg’s tastes. In fact, if requested   to blast tunes by the Canadian outfit, Jarvis is automatically programmed to reply, “I’m …

Holy shit, the music lineup for Donald Trump’s inauguration ball is hot garbage

Posted On Dec 24 2016 by

For that amount of money, you could go to Coachella instead, but then again, does Coachella have a Paparazzi Photo Shoot Zone? Tickets to the star-studded affair are priced at $350.00. Because the fucking All American Ball does. Well, they’ve got Nashville singer-songwriter Beau Davidson, who will be performing music from his latest album, The American Gentleman; The Reagan Years, “one of the HOTTEST ’80s cover bands” who only perform music released during Ronald Regan’s presidency; and a wedding band called The Mixx; plus DJ sets by DJ Romin, DJ Young Rye, DJ Flow, and — my personal fav — DJ Freedom. …

Björk calls for “the right to variety for all the girls” in open letter against sexist journalism

Posted On Dec 24 2016 by

The right to variety for all the girls out there!!!” Read the entire open letter below. “Men are allowed to go from subject to subject, do sci-fi, period pieces, be slapstick and humorous, be music nerds getting lost in sculpting soundscapes but not women. After being criticized for “not ‘performing’ and ‘hiding’ behind desks,” Björk took to Facebook to pen a missive against what she sees as   sexism in music media. “Women in music are allowed to be singer songwriters singing about their boyfriends,” she wrote. She said she believes   Volta and Biophilia   weren’t as well received …

Denis Villeneuve might be the next lunatic to try and adapt Dune

Posted On Dec 24 2016 by

According to The Hollywood Reporter,   the Canadian director, who first drew attention with gritty slow-burners like Prisoners and Sicario, is now in talks to helm a reboot of Frank Herbert’s Dune, the epic sci-fi novel that’s long resisted successful film adaptation. Tread carefully, buddy. Villeneuve joins an esteemed group should he make a go of the adaptation. This follows a new trailer for Villeneuve’s hotly anticipated Blade Runner 2049, as well as the two Golden Globe nominations he scored for this year’s   Arrival (which you can find on our best films of 2016, FYI). Who would’ve thought Denis …

Mark Zuckerberg eats toast weirdly

Posted On Dec 24 2016 by

The smart house thing sounds cool and all, but I couldn’t get past the way Zuckerberg eats his toast. Here’s the full video in case you missed it: He is, however, OK with Red Hot Chili Peppers. Earlier today, my colleague Michelle Geslani posted about Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s new in-home AI, which he programmed to   never play Nickelback music ever. Not only does he eat his burnt bread   plain, but he chews it like a horse with dentures.

More than 30 years later, and Green Day are still finding ways to give their fans unique live performances. (Read: Ranking: Every Green Day Album From Worst to Best) Replay it up above. The film will eventually surface   on the streaming platform later in 2017. The film’s first teaser trailer has been released after its premiere at the 2016 New York Film Festival, and Gray’s latest recalls Herzog’s   Aguirre, the Wrath of God   in all of its lush photography, encroaching paranoia, and constant danger appearing from all sides. Sad13 (aka Sadie Dupuis) wrestles with post-election family disputes on “MCGA” — listen

Posted On Dec 24 2016 by

“I   guess that’s just how it goes with the alt-right/ It’s passé to say ‘PC’ when you mean tolerance and decency.” It’s not exactly what you’d call holiday cheer, but at least it’s honest about what plenty of us will be feeling this season. Her latest single boils down pretty much every concept touched upon in   Slugger into one pointed commentary on the biggest topic most of us will be discussing over Christmas dinner: the election. “They want the world to be white, white white,” she sings on the bridge. Take a listen: While making calls for prison …

Donald Trump asked KISS to perform at his inauguration, they “politely declined”

Posted On Dec 24 2016 by

The KISS frontman previously declared Trump the   “truest political animal I’ve ever seen on stage,” and prior to him being elected president, Simmons was a contestant   on Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice. As it turns out, Simmons was asked to perform at the January 20th swearing in, but   he “politely declined.” As SPIN points out, paparazzi caught up with Simmons and his family in West Hollywood yesterday. At least for Trump, he’s still got DJ Freedom in his corner. Grouchy   narcissist   Gene Simmons seems like the perfect candidate to play Donald Trump’s inauguration. Asked if he or …

Chester Bennington’s “a hundred percent” certain Linkin Park will get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Posted On Dec 24 2016 by

At least, that’s what co-frontman Chester Bennington   believes. There’s no way that we can’t be,” he told the hosts of Karlson & McKenzie. On paper, the credentials might actually be there, but if Linkin Park gets in before Whitney Houston, I’ll quit music journalism. Photo by Philip Cosores This year will see the likes of   Pearl Jam, Tupac Shakur, Journey,   and   Joan Baez   inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but there are plenty of great bands who didn’t make the cut. Joy Division, Sonic Youth, Brian Eno, The Cure, Björk, and of …

Star Wars composer John Williams has never actually seen any Star Wars movies

Posted On Dec 24 2016 by

It’s probably the most popular music that I’ve done.” If only we could all have such monumental achievements to be flippant about. “I don’t know,” he says, “A lot of them are not very memorable and so on. Maybe some people find that weird, or listen to recordings of my music very, very rarely.” To be fair, Williams is a busy man and has only had, oh, four decades to squeeze in a viewing of A New Hope. You walk out of the studio and, ‘Ah, it’s finished.” He continues: “Now I don’t have an impulse to go to the …
